Illinois HB 148

UPDATE: HB-148 passed the house with 65 votes, but failed to get the supermajority (71 votes) which would ensure the guv couldn't veto. Effectively, this bill is dead on arrival...

UPDATE: HB-148 has passed out of committee and is headed to the IL House Floor.

While I try to stay away from most political things, the Illinois State Rifle Association is saying that Illinois House Bill 148 - The Family and Personal Protection Act - is bound to come up for a vote this week.

I totally support this bill: with 48 other states having some provision for the legal and lawful protection of oneself and one's family, this just makes sense. I truly believe that if Illinois passes this, then Wisconsin won't be too far behind.

ISRA is urging you to contact your legislators and build support/steel their resolve:

1. Contact your state representative beginning MONDAY MAY 2nd and politely tell him or her that you are a law-abiding Illinois citizen and that you want to have the opportunity to lawfully defend yourself and your family from violent criminals. Politely request that your state representative vote for HB148 when it comes to a vote in the Illinois House. Continue to call your state representative’s district and Springfield offices until you get through to someone. If you do not know who your state representative is, please refer to the instructions below.

2. Forward this Alert to all of your friends and relatives.

3. Post this Alert to any and all Internet bulletin boards and blogs to which you belong.
